Aluminum winding materials
Aluminum Foil for Transformer Windings
Aluminum winding foil is used to form the current-carrying layers of a transformer coil. Specify the alloy, foil dimensions, edge condition and coil format, then match the winding and joining process to the transformer design.
Construction and specification
- Material construction
- Specified aluminum grade and temper
- Product form
- Foil
Selection and processing
For the transformer winding, define the foil edge, interlayer insulation, roll build and termination. Grade and temper belong to the foil specification; winding loss and temperature rise belong to the completed coil trial.
Standards context
Use the drawing and a material/form-specific purchase specification. Round-wire references do not qualify rolled strip, foil or flat wire. Confirm edition, methods and acceptance criteria.

What should I include in an aluminum winding-foil inquiry?
Include alloy and temper, thickness, width, edge and surface requirements, roll dimensions and quantity. Add the winding, insulation and joining requirements from the transformer design.
Prepare your inquiry
- Width, thickness and tolerances
- Edge condition, burr, surface and roll dimensions
- Metal grade and temper
- Surface finish or coating, joining method and inspection requirements
