Engineering FAQ Guide
CCA Foil: Structure, Surface and Handling FAQ
What is CCA Foil?
thin copper clad aluminum composite foil.
Specify the foil structure, thickness, surface and edge requirements for the intended winding, lamination or joining process.
Primary Applications
- high-frequency transformer windings
- inverter inductors
- lightweight foil conductors
Critical RFQ Specifications
- thickness
- width
- copper ratio
- edge quality
- roll format
- surface condition
Selection
Can CCA be sized from copper diameter alone?
No. Start with measured or agreed material resistivity and the required length and resistance at the same temperature. Then check available space, termination, thermal conditions and the applicable product specification. Equal diameter does not imply equal resistance.
Specifications
How should the copper fraction be stated?
Identify whether copper content is by mass, volume or cross-sectional area, and specify the measurement or calculation basis. These percentages cannot be exchanged without accounting for the material construction.
Procurement
What should a CCA Foil inquiry include?
Include thickness, width, copper ratio, edge quality, roll format, surface condition, drawing revision, intended use, requested sample or production quantity, packaging and destination. Confirm the required inspection records and schedule for that specification.
Testing
What is needed to evaluate a connection?
Identify the terminal, conductor dimensions, crimp or joining method, current profile, moisture, temperature and flexing. Check the exposed end or cut surface and test the complete connection. If the drawing requires copper, obtain the specification owner’s approval for a change.
Which foil handling and high-frequency checks matter?
Specify foil thickness, each-face copper coverage, edge condition, burr direction, bend radius, insulation and unwinding tension. For AC winding use, provide frequency, waveform and geometry; measure losses and heating in the actual winding rather than inferring them from the copper surface.
