Copper Strip: Specification and Ordering FAQ

What is Copper Strip?

C1100 or T2 copper, oxygen-free copper and selected copper alloys.

Copper strip is supplied in coils or cut lengths for formed and stamped electrical parts. Specify the grade, temper, thickness, width and edge condition, then add plating and surface requirements for the finished contact.

Primary Applications

  • terminals
  • connectors
  • busbars
  • battery links
  • stamped electrical parts

Critical RFQ Specifications

  • grade
  • thickness
  • width
  • temper
  • plating
  • burr limit

Specifications

How should the base copper and temper be specified?

State the grade, temper, width, thickness and tolerances separately. Add burr height and direction, edge profile, flatness, camber and surface requirements for stamping or forming.

Procurement

What should a Copper Strip inquiry include?

Include grade, thickness, width, temper, plating, burr limit, drawing revision, intended use, requested sample or production quantity, packaging and destination. Confirm the required inspection records and schedule for that specification.

Testing

What is needed for tin-plated strip?

Define tin type, plating thickness on each required face, measurement method and solderability or adhesion tests. State whether forming occurs before or after plating and what cut-edge coverage is required.

How is a strip sample evaluated?

Use the actual stamping, bending and joining sequence. Record springback, burrs, cracks, coating condition and finished-part resistance against drawing requirements.
