Engineering FAQ Guide
Silver-Clad Copper: Product and Application Inquiry
What is SCC Wire / Strip / Foil?
SCC has a copper core or substrate with a silver cladding layer. Silver cladding and silver plating describe different constructions. Ask about the required form, layer and sample route before planning supply.
Describe the wire, strip or foil you need, including dimensions, silver-layer requirements and the contact or electrical duty. Use the inquiry to confirm the proposed construction, available product form and sample requirements.
Primary Applications
- high-end contacts
- high-frequency connections
- premium electronics
- advanced clad conductor inquiries
Critical RFQ Specifications
- form
- silver layer expectation
- surface requirement
- conductivity target
- contact requirement
- availability inquiry
Selection
When does silver through the full section matter?
A silver surface over copper leaves copper at cut ends, edges or uncovered joining areas. Identify which surfaces are exposed and whether the specification requires silver only at the contact or throughout the entire part.
Procurement
What should a SCC Wire / Strip / Foil inquiry include?
Include form, silver layer expectation, surface requirement, conductivity target, contact requirement, availability inquiry, drawing revision, intended use, requested sample or production quantity, packaging and destination. Confirm the required inspection records and schedule for that specification.
Testing
Which data are needed for RF use?
State frequency range, wire or foil geometry, silver layer thickness and continuity, roughness and connection geometry. Compare loss in the complete cable or RF assembly; a silver surface alone does not establish equivalence to solid silver.
Which data are needed for contacts?
Provide contact force, mating surface, current, temperature, atmosphere and cycle count. Inspect the formed surface and record contact resistance and wear under the defined duty.
